She brought together both worlds and brought Tejano music into mainstream culture. It was an emerging star whose untimely passing splintered it. As is the norm when a brilliant, genial and young musician is lost too quickly and is buried, many mourned the greatness that she had yet to attain. Fans have been inspired over through the years to dig and work harder to ensure her successes are not forgotten. Selena is the Tejano performer who tragically killed by a gunshot accident has sparked the Latino reaction that can be likened to the reaction to John Lennon's death. Selena's music, an artist who was hugely success in Latino communities across North America touched people young and old. Selena has been called by many as the Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic example to follow. Selena's family values off stage and involvement with AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
